No More Slipping or Shifting Dentures
How Do Implant-Retained Dentures Work?
A conventional denture is held in place using suction or an adhesive. While there have been improvements to enhance their fit to minimize slipping, you will still experience some degree of irritation and a limited biting force.
Implant-retained dentures resolve the disadvantages of the traditional treatment. Dental implant posts are surgically placed into your jawline to mimic the roots of your teeth. They also allow your denture to be anchored to your jawbone. Your denture will stay securely in place while you regain as much as 70% of your biting force to enjoy your favorite foods again.
Am I a Candidate for Implant-Retained Dentures?
The best way to determine whether you’re a good candidate for implant-retained dentures is to schedule a consultation with our team. During this visit, we’ll conduct a thorough examination of your mouth and facial structure to determine if dental implants are the right solution for you.
Generally, if you have good oral and physical health, you are a candidate for dental implants. Besides a visual examination, we also review a CT scan to assess your oral structures. Depending on the results of the examination, you may need additional treatments before placing your implant posts, such as bone grafting or a sinus lift.
Implant-Retained Denture Process
Once you decide that you’d like to move forward with the treatment, we’ll schedule your implant surgery. We complete the entire process in-office, so the same team will be working with you from start to finish. To ensure that you’re not in pain during the surgery, we’ll administer a local anesthetic. After the procedure is over, you’ll undergo a healing process over the next several months. During this time, your implants will fuse with your jawbone through a process called osseointegration.
After your gums have healed, we’ll call you in to place small, metal connector pieces called abutments onto your implants. We’ll then take impressions of your mouth to craft your customized restorations. As soon as your permanent crown, bridge, or denture arrives, we’ll call you back in to secure it to your implants, completing your smile.
